Standing In Solidarity Against Anti-Asian Hate and Violence
Dear members of the YPE NYC Community,
In light of the rising number of anti-Asian hate crimes, the YPE NYC board joins the ensemble of voices condemning attacks against Asians, Asian Americans, and Pacific Islanders. Hate or violence against the Asian community, or any member of our community, is unacceptable. YPE NYC has no tolerance for racism or intolerance of any kind.
As an organization, we will act on our values and fight for equality. Below are educational resources on the Asian experience in America, organizations that show support for the Asian and Asian American community, and suggestions for action (last updated 4/28/2021):
Learn about the history of discrimination against Asian Americans.
Raise awareness for and elevate Asian and Pacific Islander Voices (For example, Times Article highlighting Asian American Stories, Vice News Video).
Connect with Stop Asian Hate Public Education Resources, including a guide on how to report bias, discrimination, or harassment.
Report incidents of anti-Asian hate crimes to Stop AAPI Hate, a national organization that tracks and responds to anti-Asian incidents. Stop AAPI Hate also accepts donations to support their efforts.
Donate to the Asian American Federation (AAF), a New-York based organization raising the influence and well-being of the pan-Asian American community through research, policy advocacy, public awareness, and nonprofit support.
Read and Share AAF’s “Stay Safe from Hate” Guide that comes in different languages including English, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Korean, Japanese, Tagalog, and Vietnamese.
Protect yourself and others in the face of discrimination by attending a virtual bystander intervention training created in partnership between Asian Americans Advancing Justice (AAJC) and Hollaback!.
If you are in a position of leadership, listen to and support AAPI employees and coworkers. Actions can range from checking in where appropriate, making support options clear, learning to prevent and confront microaggressions, and educating yourself on issues affecting AAPI professionals in the workplace, such as promotion gaps.
As a network of energy professionals inclusive of a diverse workforce, we pledge to continue doing our part in advancing racial equity by keeping diversity, and inclusion at the forefront of everything we do.
If you have suggestions on other resources we can provide, or would like to get in touch regarding this message, please don't hesitate to contact us.
Sincerely,
Your YPE NYC Board
